Background

Midshire Signature Services (Midshire) boasts over 30 years of catering and soft facilities management services know-how. Every day the contract caterer, through 70 sites located largely in Wales, serves over 10,000 of their clients’ employees, students, and members of the public throughout the UK, across the Business and Industry, Public and Leisure Services, Education and Health sectors. Midshire has been working with allmanhall for several years now.

What did the client need?

When Sue Bradwell, Managing Director, first opened discussions with the allmanhall team, her requirement was clear – to benefit from allmanhall’s substantial purchasing power and negotiating expertise to generate financial savings, without compromising quality or continuity of supply.

The initial pricing benchmark completed for the contract caterer by allmanhall estimated that the saving for the year would be considerable. However, quality of ingredients would not be affected by reducing costs, as allmanhall’s procurement team robustly manage their supply chain to ensure the highest standards of food are delivered to Midshire.

Based on the forecasted saving, and the reassurance that quality would not be compromised, Sue appointed allmanhall to manage Midshire’s catering procurement.

What was the result?

allmanhall mobilised their suppliers and, within 6 weeks, began delivering to multiple sites. This included a consolidation of suppliers and range rationalisation for, in particular, the multi-temp solution.

allmanhall are constantly looking at how to leverage further savings for Midshire. allmanhall’s buyers produce bespoke reports for the management team to assist them with achieving enhanced savings through ‘Buy Rights’. This type of range management is a proactive approach to supporting good buying practice. As buying experts, allmanhall regularly informs Midshire of more competitive alternatives on all product lines and makes recommendations regarding ongoing range rationalisation. The choice, however, still remains with Midshire.

Midshire continues to achieve real benefit from allmanhall’s competitive pricing, robust supplier negotiation and management, and their delivery of effective support functions.

allmanhall has mitigated constant demands for price increases. The team’s prevention of these increases with some suppliers, and their success in achieving actual price decreases with others, shows clear evidence of the financial benefits that the partnership with allmanhall has afforded Midshire, particularly during this time of volatility and uncertainty in food and commodity markets.

So far, allmanhall have consistently delivered annual sustained savings of over 10%.

allmanhall has built upon existing strong relationships at director level to develop trust and cooperation between the two companies. In addition to the core procurement expertise and support delivered, allmanhall have also:

  • facilitated the introduction of a new IT platform which has reduced invoice processing by 97%, completely removing manual processing
  • the IT platform also enables stock taking; menu, recipe and allergen management; P&L reporting; E-ordering and journals
  • supported Midshire’s Executive Chef to re-engineer recipes and menus.

Midshire and allmanhall work in partnership to move the business forward.
